Attorney Katie Jeremiah Named OCAPA Associate Member of the Year

GO BACK

Portland, OR… Jordan Ramis PC is pleased to announce that Dirt Law® attorney Katie Jeremiah was named the Oregon Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association, Inc. (“OCAPA”) Associate Member of the Year at OCAPA’s Chairman’s Dinner on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Katie’s service to the construction and mining industry, particularly her work with Mine Safety and Health Administration (“MSHA”) law awareness, earned her the prestigious award.

OCAPA was formed in 1967 and represents businesses who produce ready-mixed concrete and/or mine aggregate (the rock used in the production of concrete and asphalt) and industry suppliers. Currently OCAPA represents 75 producing companies across the state – from two-person family operations to large foreign owned businesses – and 65 associate members.

Katie serves as the chair of OCAPA’s MSHA Compliance Assistance Committee, which develops regulatory compliance assistance and educational tools for Oregon mine operators. She has dedicated her efforts to assisting the industry with MSHA-related issues by identifying enforcement trends, communicating compliance tips to operators, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors. Katie has met with federal mine safety agency leaders Joe Main and Neal Merrifield and has presented the impact of regulatory issues on Oregon operators to U.S. Congressman Greg Walden. Katie continues to work with Congressman Walden’s offices in Bend, Oregon, and Washington, D.C., to convey the ongoing compliance issues that operators face, and to assist Congressman Walden in communicating these issues to congressional committees such as the House Labor Appropriations Committee.

Katie’s background as a construction project engineer, partner in a surface mining business, and lawyer gives her a unique perspective on the construction and mining industry, where she has written a number of MSHA law articles for construction and mining trade publications. She has also been called upon to speak on current MSHA related issues. Katie’s educational background includes a B.S. in Construction Engineering Management from Oregon State University and a J.D. from the Lewis & Clark School of Law, where she received dual certificates in environmental and business law.
