Six-Year Building Code Cycle

GO BACK

Currently, the State Building Code Council reviews and updates all the state building codes on a three-year cycle. They were last updated in 2009 and again in 2012. Builders emerging from the recession are now facing additional fees for building code updates that they might not be familiar with due to the lack of building.

The industry would like to push for less frequent building code updates, which would reduce costs and allow the industry to have time-tested results to see if updated codes achieve the intended results.

Economic Development Incentives

Several business and trade organizations will be pushing the legislature to create more tools to lure jobs to the state. This may include the expansion of tax increment financing. The hope is that luring jobs to the state will enable the housing recovery to continue.
