Portland, OR… Jordan Ramis attorney and shareholder Amy Robinson recently earned certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources ("SPHR"). This gives the law firm the unique distinction of having all of its employment lawyers certified as human resource professionals.
"All three of our employment lawyers have HR backgrounds and are well-versed in HR issues as a result. They can efficiently and effectively address client needs from the legal standpoint, with the added value of first-hand knowledge of the challenges HR managers face," said managing shareholder Steve Shropshire. The certification, awarded by the HR Certification Institute, signifies that Amy possesses the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management. To become certified, an applicant must pass a comprehensive examination and demonstrate a strong background of professional human resource experience. The HR Certification Institute is the credentialing body for human resource professionals and is affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management ("SHRM"), the world's largest organization dedicated exclusively to the human resource profession.
Amy's human resource background, coupled with her SPHR certification, gives her a unique skill set for an employment lawyer counseling clients in a full range of employment issues that include disability and accommodations, employee complaints and grievances, wage and hour issues, employee leaves, employee counseling and discipline, and discrimination and harassment, and in representing employers in judicial and administrative proceedings. She is licensed to practice in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska, and admitted to the United States District Courts of both the Western District of Washington and the District of Oregon.
Amy earned her B.A. from Washington State University. She earned her J.D. at Lewis and Clark College, Northwestern School of Law. She currently serves on the board as President-Elect of the Southwest Washington Human Resource Management Association (SWHRMA), and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. She was previously President of Washington Women Lawyers (2008-2009) and continues to serve on that Board of Directors as well as the Washington Women Lawyers Foundation Board.
