Building conversion in Portland: DJC Oregon

In the July 1, 2024, issue of the DJC Oregon, Jordan Ramis Attorney Ezra Hammer was quoted as saying, “There’s been a great desire to achieve (office-to-residential conversions), but like many things, adaptive reuse can only succeed in places where it makes sense from a cost basis,” regarding a California developer pursuing an office-to-residential conversion of the Mason Ehrman Building in historic Old Town in Portland. The 116-year-old building could be converted in a mixed use of office, retail and residential space. Adaptive reuse “produces a very low carbon footprint, so you can produce housing without producing a lot of the externalities,” Ezra added.
