A New Style of Infill House?
February 27, 2013
This is a pretty cool house with an accessory dwelling unit ("ADU") that just recently completed construction in Portland. A while ago I posted about some pioneering things going on in small lot development and infill in Los Angeles by Modative and others. When I see home grown products like these come to market, I believe they also deserve to be highlighted.

This house was designed by Works Partnership Architecture and constructed by Tamarack Homes. Tamarack Homes built this house once before in Ridgefield, Washington, where it was highlighted in the Building Industry Association of Clark County'sParade of Homes. The house was originally designed as an experiment to create a new type of tract home for subdivisions. The Ridgefield house was constructed in 60 days and the day-to-day progress can be viewed on this blog. For me this house presents a great opportunity to build on narrow but deeper lots. The addition of the ADU in the Prototype PDX behind the main house provides a nice opportunity to create additional density and potential income for the homeowner.

If you would like to tour the Prototype PDX along with other private Modern Homes you have an opportunity on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Modern Home Tour.  Click here for information. I am looking forward to the tour and reporting back with findings.
